Watch out for people who frequently change jobs, or go long periods of time unemployed. Be careful when there is always an excuse to explain their unemployment, especially when thereason is always someone else's fault (I got laid off, my boss hatedme, they wanted me to work all the time, there was no room for advancement, they kept shorting my paychecks, etc.) Stuff happens,but when it happens to that person over and over, it's a red flag. Don't become overly stingy in an effort to spot a gold digger. The above steps all involve getting to know the person, and observing their behavior. You don't have to pretend to be a total cheapskate in order to judge someone's character.
